About DSF of SENM
The Mission of the Down Syndrome Foundation of Southeastern New Mexico is to provide support and education to all individuals with Down syndrome and their families. We do this by promoting community awareness, and providing educational information to families, educators, and medical professionals and the community about Down syndrome. Our goal is to help individuals with Down syndrome and their families reach any goal they dream.
The Down Syndrome Foundation of Southeastern New Mexico got its start after Teresa McCreary hosted the first Roswell Buddy Walk in 2005. She and her family along with son Keagan had attended prior Buddy Walks in Carlsbad, New Mexico and were encouraged to continue the efforts in Roswell.
After the 2nd Annual 2006 Roswell Buddy Walk®, which raised $8000, a group of parent’s decided to meet regularly and spend more time getting to know each other and finding out how they could help each other and their children with Down syndrome. The UPs (United Parents for Down syndrome) group was founded and began meeting once a month for the next year.
At this time the Southeastern New Mexico Down Syndrome Foundation was started. In 2007 we gained our 501c3 status and continued establishing programs to help support families in Southeastern New Mexico.
